The cut of the New Year Cake took place on Sunday the 1st of February 2009 at 17:30 at our cultural centre.
The priest of our parish, Dionisios Livanas, blessed the New Year cake.

For the second time the administrative council of our society presented the life and the legacy of people who lived and passed by our village and helped the development, the peace and the progress of this place in a big or in a smaller extent.
This year ‘TRIBUTES’ presented the life of Mr. Aristos Golfinopoulos and his wife Mrs. Greta Golfinopoulou.

Greta Golfinopoulou was born 1899 in Leipzig/Germany. The people of
Longo's Cultural Society want wih this event to honor the german woman
who offered so much in the country where she lived and loved. In the
difficult year of the 1940' Mrs Golfinopoulou worked as an interpreter
in the Germand Headquarters in Egio. She supported the resistance and
represented by this an other Germany.
As an example we refer to an
extract of George Papageorgiou's book "The National Resistance in
Egialeia 1941-1944":
"Her student in German, Panos Panagopoulos, pharmacist in Egio,
graduated from Vienna's University, referred: Greta two or three days
before the destruction of Kalavryta, had visited at 9:00 p.m. the
despot Theoklitos, who lived in the old mansion of Stauropoulos at the
end of Kapodistria road. She informed him that the Germans planned to
destroy Kalavryta. She had seen the orders at the headquarters. She
asked the despot to inform the people to leave Kalavryta."
Greta Golfinopoulou died in Longos on December 30, 1974 at the age of 75.
The grandson Mr. Aristos Golfinopoulos, with the president of Longos Cultural Society and the president of Longos Cultural Society with Mr. Leonidas Sfikas, pupil of Greta Golfinopoulou, who told us about her life.
The chlidrens of Longos Cultural Society presented dances from all over Greece.
