Crowned with success the

«Third Aigialeias' Competition
of Open Water Swimming»


took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the beach of Longos - Selianitika near to the restaurants "Esperides" and "Base".

The competition was organised by the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS "LORD BYRON" in cooperation with the CULTURAL SOCIETY SELIANITIKA "HELIOS", the noncommercial organisation of Aigialeias' municipality (DI.K.EP.A.) and the municipality Aigialeias.

    

 

 

Special honour was given to

   Mr. Mitchell Towne


who crossed the Gulf of Corinth by swimming on August 5, 2015. The distance of aproximately 8 nautical miles took him 2 hours and 45 minutes.

This outstanding piece of athletical achievment was honoured by Mr. Leonidas Sfikas, member of the managing committee of the CULTURAL
SOCIETY LONGOS, who gave a special lap of honour and a laurel wreath to Mr. Towne.

    

 

But of cource laps of honour are given to the 50 swimmers from age 10 upwards, who participated this year in the Competition of Open Water Swimming and the winners of each category took their gold, silver or bronze medal.

 

This year participated the 14 years old Nikoleta Pavlopoulou, holder of the greek girls record in 50, 100 and 200 m Breaststroke as well as 50 and 100 m Freestyle.

Freestyle boys age 10 to 12:

3. Thrasyvoulos Karatzas

Freestyle girls age 10 to 12:
1. Vasiliki Dimopoulou
2. Olympia Rodopoulou
3. Eleni Drakountaidi

The gold, silver or bronze medals are given by Mrs. Asiminia Bourousa, member of the managing committee of DI.K.EP.A.

 

Freestyle boys age 13 to 17:
1. Konstantinos Kyriatzis
2. Panagiotis Georgovasilopoulos
3. Thanos Iliopoulos

Freestyle girls age 13 to 17:
1. Nikoleta Pavlopoulou
2. Marilou Kazamioti
3. Angeliki Georgovasilopoulou

Mr. Nikolaos Thanasoulias, deputy president of N.P.D.D. of the municipality Aigialeias and the chairman of the
local council of Selianitika, Mr. Evangelos Georgopoulos, presented the medals to the winners.

 

Freestyle men age 18 and upwards:
1. Mitchell Towne
2. Giorgos Politis
3. Marios Spyropoulos

Freestyle ladies age 18 and upwards:
1. Katerina Politi
2. Alexandra Maneta
3. Heike Politi

The winners are honoured by the deputy head of the harbour authority Aigio, Mrs. Eleni Klagkou and
the president of the CULUTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS, Mr. Ierotheos Mourikis.

 

Breaststroke boys age 10 to 12:

Breaststroke girls age 10 to 12:

Mrs. Vasiliki Theodoropoulou, treasurer of the CULTURAL SOCIETY SELIANITIKA,
and Mrs. Eleni Ntourou-Rodopoulou, recording secretary of the CULTURL SOCIETY LONGOS, handed over the medals.

 

Breaststroke boys age 13 to 17:

Mr. Konstantinos Tsoumbos and the representative of the Greek Red Cross honoured the winners.

 

Breaststroke men age 18 and upwards:

Breaststroke ladies age 18 and upwards:
1. Alexandra Maneta
2. Georgia Kakiou
3. Christina Flouda

The medals are given by the vice-president of the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS, Mr. Georgios Rodopoulos
and Mr. Georgios Rozos, president of the CULURAL SOCIETY SELIANITIKA.

 

Backstroke boys age 10 to 12:
1. Spyros Lykoudis
2. Ilias Tsalamidas

Backstroke girls age 13 to 17:
1. Nikoleta Pavlopoulou
2. Styliani Kyriakopoulou

The medals are handed over by the coach of the Nautical Society Patras, Mrs. Nikoleta Pastou
and the teacher of gymnastics, Mrs. Anna Lykoudi.

 

Backstroke men age 18 and upwards:

Backstroke ladies age 18 and upwards:

The life-guard, Mr. Alexandros Kanellopoulos, honoured the winners.

 

The managing committee of the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS "LORD BYRON" thanks the chairman of the CULTURAL SOCIETY SELIANITIKA "HELIOS", Mr Georgios Rozos, for the excellent cooperation in organisation and execution of the Third Competition of Open Water Swimming. Especially thanks goes to the member of our society, Mr Leonidas Sfikas, who had the idea for the competition and who organized this competition by appointment of the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS the third time. We also thank all the people who helped in holding the competition for their voluntary assistance and all swimmers for taking part in this event of pleasure and sporting activity.
