Excursion to Ano Chora
Festival of chestnuts & tsipuro

The administrative council of the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS has organized an excursion to the festival of chestnuts in Ano Chora Nafpaktias. Ano Chora is one of the villages you don't tire of going for a walk. The paved village square is decorated by the church of St. Paraskevi and next to the church you can find the "carnivalist", the little bus which executed the trip "Nafpaktos - Ano Chora" until 1983. A gift from the driver to the inhabitants of Ano Chora, "those which have gone, and those which will come to remember"."

From Nafpaktos the way took us 52 kilometers via the villages Kato Dafni, Palaiopyrgos, Limnitsa, Terpsithea and Elatou to Megali Lompotina, as Ano Chora was called in former times Thanks to his natural beauty Ano Chora became a popular destination, which kept the colour of an traditional mountain village in Nafpaktos´ highland. Ano Chora is situated 1060 meters above sea levell at the foothill of Vardousias at the flank of Keravouni and is one of the high-lying mountain villages of Aitoloakarnias. Mid-October the Festival of chestnuts and tsipuro takes place, where tsipouro is distilled, chestnuts, sweets as well as traditional pitas and cooked goats are served. A special invent, which ist visited from all over Greece.
