After the comlete success of the performances «Backgammon» and «Festivity with Nourian» Theatre Longos presented in the context of the Cultural Summer 2017 as third play the comedy

  «Crackpots of the epoch»

The activity was opened by the chairman of the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS, Mr. Ierotheos Mourikis, who welcomed the audience.

He spoke about the life of the unforgotten Dimitris Psathas and explained the history of Longos' theatre.

He explained the further activities of the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS making a point to the annual Ceremonial Laying of Wreath at the Memorial of the victims of 22nd of August, 1962, which will take place this Thuesday, August 22, 2017. He asked all the villagers to take part in this Laying of Wreath.

Finally Mr. Mourikis mentioned the DONATION OF BLOOD, which will happen the next Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at the Cultural Centre Longos.

 

 

SOME WORDS ABOUT THE PLAY

The crackpots of the epoch of Dimitris Psathas meets to the crackpots of the year 2017. Meeting place: The same glorious and not remorseful Greece. Reason of the madness: The everyday life of the Greeks - with little differences. Those days we played «the pope», here is the pope - there is the popes, in the greek country, while now we play the first, the second, the third and so on memorandum.
Come on, let´s live the life of the all managing Greek, who yearns for easy earned money, but as well the drama of the patient and tender Greek in the waiting lines, with the bureaucracy of greek civil services.
Come on, let´s look together if we endure the increase in prices, the unemployment, the memorandum, the tax liability, the instalments of loan and the battle cries, which sounds around the world. Our life - the International Monetary Fund and the memorandum.

Some adapt themself, others resist - as Agisilaos.

Who is the madman, who the right-minded man in this country?

 

THE AUTHOR

Dimitris Psathas was born in Trabzon of Pontos in 1907. He was a famous modern Greek satirist and playwright.

He went to Athens in 1923 and finished his studies whereby he devoted himself to both journalism and the theatre. In 1937, he published his first book Justice is in a good mood and the next year his next book Justice is in a bad mood. However, he became widely known with his book Madam Sousou. He wrote many theatrical plays with great success. He also wrote a 500-page historical chronicle about the resistance of his compatriots entitled Land of Pontos in 1996. Most of his theatrical plays become movies with great success. His works are traslaited into English, French, Russian, Romanian and Turkish and played in many countries. He was member of the union of greek playwrights and the association of athenian daily newspapers writers (ΕΣΗΕΑ).

Dimitris Psathas died in Athens in 1979.

      was issued by the greek postal
      administration in 2015 in remembrance of the
      «100 Years of the foundation of ΕΣΗΕΑ».
