Loutra Pozar

Loutra Pozar (or Loutraki) is situated 13 km nortwest of Aridaia in the district of Pellas at the foothill of Voras (better known as Mount Kaimaktsalan), a mount only a few kilometres from the border of Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Since thousands of yeras the thermal water rises with a constant temerature of 37°C from the springs in 360 to 390 m altitude and built an imposing landscape of mountains and deep forest.

Second day

National Park of Prespa

Prespa is the name of two freshwater lakes, the Great Prespa Lake (Greece/Albania and FYROM) and the Small Prespa Lake (Grrece/Albania). Since 1973 the National Park is due to Ramsar Convention officially an International Nature Reserve.

Agios Germanos

Agios Germanos, is a village in the Prespa Municipality located at an altitude of approximately 1,100 meters, on a hillside, part of the Varnoundas Mountains. It is 7 kilometers from the Prespa lakes, which can be seen from a panorama location of the village. It is the only village in the region that has preserved all of the old stone houses. The Byzantine church that forms the nucleus of the present village dates to the beginning of the 11th century

Due to bad weather-conditions the trip to the lakes and to Agios Germanos was cancelled and we visited Edessa, Naousa and Vergina.

It was here in 336 BC that Philip II was assassinated in the theatre and Alexander the Great was proclaimed king. It became internationally famous in 1977, when the Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos unearthed the burial site of the kings of Macedon, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. A museum now contains Philip's tomb. The objects and paintings found in the tombs at Vergina are of extraordinarily high quality and historical importance.
