The competition took place at the beach of Longos - Selianitika near to the restaurants "Esperides" and "Base".

On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, were performed on the beach of Longos-Selianitika for the sixth time in a row the «Competition of Open Water Swimming» with great participation of locals and tourists, but also from swimmers of Egio and Patras.

The «Competition of Open Water Swimming» are based on an idea of Mr Leonidas Sfikas. The competitions, which have become a tradition since the beginning of the year 2013 are organized by the two associations CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS "LORD BYRON" and CULTURAL SOCIETY SELIANITIKA "HELIOS".

The swimming club Egio has this year the attention with winning eight medals (2 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze), and the recently founded club Filathli Egio won - with fewer participants - a bronze medal. Most medal won the Naŭtic Club Patras (N.O.P.) and the Athletics Association of Patras (N.E.P.). Of course, independent swimmers as well as tourists participated in the competitions. The next rendezvous next summer at the «Seventh Competition of Open Water Swimming".

There were among others present the chairman of the Local council Selianitika, Mr Evangelos Georgopoulos, the chairman of N.P.D.D. Aigialeia, Mr Efstathios Vardakis, as representative of the Port Authority Patras Deputy Chief, Mr Konstantinos Korizis, the representative of the N.O.P., Mr. Dimitrios Polyzos, Mrs. Tasia Vlachopoulou from swimming club Egio and Mr Vasilis Kotraidis from Club Filathli Egio.

The managing committee of the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS "LORD BYRON" thanks the chairman of the CULTURAL SOCIETY SELIANITIKA "HELIOS", Mr Georgios Rozos, for the excellent cooperation in organisation and execution of the Fifth Competition of Open Water Swimming. Especially thanks goes to the member of our society, Mr Leonidas Sfikas, who had the idea for the competition and who organized this competition by appointment of the CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS the sixth time. We also thank all the people who helped in holding the competition for their voluntary assistance and all swimmers for taking part in this event of pleasure and sporting activity.
