«The Feast» by Dimitris Kechaidis is one of the most popular works of the contemporary greek theatre, written in 1962. Stratilatis, a salesman of blankets, is an old soldier of the Greco-Turkish War of 1919–1922. He lives with his family on the flat land of Thessaly. His nomadic life, the illiteracy, the poverty and the unemployment prevent to make progress and let his family stew in their own grease. His wife Despina, more on the bottom of the facts, struggles for the survival of the family and for the hope of better life, tempts her daughter to an inopportune marriage. The situation grows more acute, the family grows away from each other until ultimate separation and isolation.

The Author Dimitris Kechaidis, an extraordinary greek writer and scriptwriter, was born in 1933 in Trikala, grew up in Volos and studied law in Athens. While he was a student he wrote his first works, which were presented at the Art Theater of Charles Koun. There he presented "A sad song" and "Toys in the Salts" in 1958. Since then all his theatrical life was connected with the Art Theater of Charles Koun and the premieres of his works until 1985 took place at the Art Theatre under the direction of Charles Koun. The pieces "The Big Walk" (1969), "The Feast" (1962), the one-act plays, "The Ring", "Backgammon" (1972) and "Daphne and oleander" (1979) he wrote together with his companion in life Eleni Chaviara. The last work played on the greek stages was "With power from Kifisia" (1995), the premiere took place at the Theatre of Cycladesroad under the direktion of Lefteris Vougiatzi. His works were presented by the National Theater, the National Theater of Northern Greece, Municipal Regional Theaters and various professional and amateur theaters, were broadcast by the radio or screened on television both in Greece and abroad. Dimitris Kechaidis died on 15 December 2005 in Athens, after a long-term illness.
