Places of interest

The Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Basil of Tripoli. It is dedicated to Saint Basil and was built on the site where Bekir Pasha's mosque used to be. The inauguration of the church took place on 06.11.1855 and the construction of the entire building took several decades with various changes to the original plan. It is a stone structure of black limestone faced with all-white Dolian marble. It was deemed appropriate to retain several shops and workshops under and around the temple to contribute to the completion of the temple by renting them out.

The Areos Square. It was founded on the site where the Serai was located. The transformation began in 1858 on the initiative of Sotirios D. Lagopatis and was completed in 1862 after the expropriation of land. The name comes from the gymnasiums of the infantry battalion that were located in this area. There is also a marble column with the names of the heroes who played an important role in the liberation of Tripoli and Greece from the Turks in 1821. The last Moragianis of the Peloponnese, Theodorakis Papagiannopoulos - Deligiannis, who was taken hostage by the Turks, was counted among the first class heroes, sacrificed himself for the Greek cause and was executed by the Turks before Tripoli was taken by the Greeks because his brother General Kanellos Papagiannopoulos - Deligiannis did not lift the siege of Tripoli but prolonged it, which led to the capture of the city.

The Central Square of Tripoli or Agios Vasileiou Square. It was founded in the period from 1847 to 1848. The construction and planting of the central square is due to the first mayor of Tripoli, Ioannis Petrinos (1835-1841).

The Archaeological Museum of Tripoli. It is housed in the former hospital "Evangelistria", founded by the nun Anastasia Demesticha and housed in a neoclassical building designed by the German architect Ernst Zilleriller. The building was used as a hospital from 1913 to 1951. The establishment of the archaeological museum was decided in 1980 under the ministry of A. Andrianopoulos and inaugurated in September 1986 by Melina Merkouri under the mayoralty of Theodoros Sechiotis.
