EXCURSION to Mantineia - Kapsia cave - Vytina

The CULTURAL SOCIETY LONGOS "LORD BYRON" ηασ organiseδ in cooperation with MATTHEOS-TOURS - Aigio a one-day excursion to Mantineia - Kapsia cave - Vytina on Sunday,February 2, 2025.

Participation fee: 25 €/person. Special prices were available for children up to the age of twelve.       Departure from Longos: 7.30 a.m. On this excursion, we visited ancient Mantineia and the church of St Fotini with its unique architecture. We then visited the Kapsia Cave, one of the ten most impressive caves in Greece. Finally, we drove to the famous Vytina, one of the most beautiful villages in the mountains of Arcadia. Gathering of the excursionists 07:30 in Loggo at the well. We departed towards Corinth and then towards Tripoli after a short stop for rest and morning coffee. After the toll of Nestani we took the road to Levidi , Vytina and Ancient Olympia. Our next destination and just a few kilometers further down on the plateau of Mantineia, the cave of Kapsia, which is ranked among the 10 best in Greece and is open to visitors since 2010. It is world famous for its underground sinkholes but also for the findings of human bones and tools. Our appointment with the guide who will tell us the history of the cave was at 11.30. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the speleologist and tour guide, Mr Savvas Kastros, for his excellent guidance. There was a large cafeteria in the vicinity of the cave where we were able to enjoy a coffee. Then we followed the road to Vytina, the main village of Menalon and now a great winter destination. We stayed in Vytina for lunch and afternoon coffee with dessert and were able to do our shopping for traditional products. The patron saint of Vytina is St. Tryphon whose church is located in the central square and is celebrated on February 1. We were also able to visit the excellent folklore museum in Vytina.
