Saint Fotini . . .

Saint Fotini (Agia Fotini Mantineia) is a church located opposite the archaeological site of Mantineia in Arcadia, 13 km north of Tripoli.

It is an architectural design by Kostas Papatheodoros that combines archaeotropical rhythms with elements of Byzantine influences and whose dedication to Agia Fotini reflects Arcadia's relationship with light.

With its curved surfaces and irregular angles, the building conveys the feeling of moving and breathing. Inside, there are mosaics depicting ancient mythology alongside Christian figures. The creator wanted to express man's relationship with the divine and the unity of Greek tradition, the love of man and God.

The iconography of the church follows the same spirit, with the painted figures reminiscent of ancient Greek philosophers. There are also some cultural references to the sanctuaries of Isis, which abounded in Arcadia. The aesthetically very interesting church was consecrated in 1972. In the surrounding area there is a memorial in honour of those who died in the wars, which follows the same logic as the church. There is also the so-called Fountain of Jacob, a fountain with a special construction.
