The War Museum . . .

The Nafplio War Museum is housed in a two-storey neoclassical building where Greece's first governor, Ioannis Kapodistrias, established Greece's first Evelpidon School, the central military academy for the army and navy, from 1828 to 1834. It was restored in November 1988.

The main aim of founding the school in 1828 was to staff the army with knowledgeable men. The aim of the museum today is to present the most important information on the modern history of Greece, with special emphasis on the contribution of the inhabitants of Argolida to the struggles of Greek nationality, from the Greek Revolution of 1821 to the occupation in 1944, while also presenting the history of the Evelpidon School, which was housed in this building.

The War Museum is housed on two floors. On the first floor, among other things, rare items from the historical course of the military academy are on display. The exhibition shows weapons, costumes and paintings from the time of the Greek Revolution to Greece's contribution to the First World War.

On the second floor of the museum, photographs, weapons, maps and other objects from the period of the Asia Minor expulsion of 1919-1922, the Greek-Italian war of 1940-1941, the German invasion of 1941, the occupation and the liberation of the Greek nation in 1944 are on display.
