EPTALOFOS or AGORIANI . . .
Eptalofos or Agoriani is a village in the prefecture of Fokida and belongs to the municipality of Delphi. It is situated at an altitude of 830 metres on the north-eastern slopes of Mount Parnassos. The population is 461 according to the 2011 census. The place was called Ano Agoriani until 1927, when it was renamed Eptalofos. Eptalofos has seen a lot of tourist development in recent years, due to its short distance from the ski resorts of Parnassos and its location in a fir forest. Snow often falls in the settlement during the winter months. The tourist development of the area has sustained the population of Eptalofos, which has increased slightly in recent decades. It has been mentioned as a settlement since the time of the Turkish occupation and after the liberation officially in 1835 as the seat of the then municipality of Rodontia (Oiti). From 1912, Agoriani was the seat of the municipality of the same name. On 31 December 2010, with the implementation of the Kallikrat programme, Agoriani became the enlarged municipality of Lamiaeon and, together with the neighbouring Nea Pavliani, the local community of Pavliani. According to the 2011 census, the municipality has 498 inhabitants and the settlement 367, compared to 574 and 438 respectively in 2001.
The village was heavily destroyed by German troops during the occupation. In October 1943, they almost completely burnt down the village in retaliation for partisan activity in the area. Of the 184 houses the village had at the time, 146 were burnt down and a total of 17 civilians were executed, 7 of whom belonged to the same family.
Agoriani village square   Agoriani waterfall The waterfall of Agoriani is located near the central square of the village. It is formed by the Agoriani stream and adds a special touch to the village as its gurgling waters flow endlessly, forming two other waterfalls along the way. From the village square, a paved path leads to the waterfall, which is a must-see when visiting Agoriani.
